A baby received a transplant of his own cord blood banked with Progenics

Cord blood has been transplanted to a baby whose cord blood was banked with Progenics in 2006. The baby was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma (cancer) in the spring of 2007. The transplant was held December 10, 2007 and neutrophils successfully engrafted (an indicator of a successful transplant) at day 16 after the transplant (normally it takes one month). The transplant using the patient's own cord blood was one of the first transplants of its kind worldwide.
