Our laboratory
Progenics is an AABB-accredited facility with successful transplant experience. Its laboratory is dedicated solely to the processing and cryopreservation of human umbilical cord blood stem cells. Our laboratory facility is designed with many safeguards against possible human, equipment and power failures. We have the most technologically advanced laboratory equipment and our laboratory staff of highly qualified professionals is under the supervision of Dr. H. Yang, an internationally recognized authority on cord blood banking.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality processing and long-term storage of cord blood stem cells in a safe environment, to ensure their availability to you when you need them. |

Under the direction of the experienced Laboratory and Scientific Director, Dr. Hongyou Yang, Progenics has established a unique facility to bank cord blood stem cells for future transplantation. Only Progenics can guarantee the quality of banked cells with processing results and transplant success by issuing a certificate with a quality guarantee; the only one of its kind worldwide.
Progenics’ laboratory provides the highest quality service by having the following:
Unique processing system
Our cord blood processing is managed by a custom-designed electronic database, which each processing biological safety cabinet is equipped with. This unique system enables scanning at each step during processing and transferring cells, and it warns processing technologists by an audible voice system if an error occurs at any step during processing. Therefore, human error is avoided by this system; the only one of its kind in Canada. All cord blood is processed under the strictest sterile conditions in a closed system.

“Zero-Distance” transferring system
In order to avoid unnecessary cell injury during the transfer of cryopreserved cord blood samples to a liquid nitrogen storage freezer, we have designed the zero-distance transferring system, in which a controlled-rate freezing machine is located just next to a liquid nitrogen storage freezer. Therefore, the temperature does not have a chance to warm up during the transfer of samples after cord blood stem cells are cryopreserved using a controlled-rate freezing machine.

 |
Secure Long-term storage facility
Progenics stores cryopreserved cord blood in a secure facility for long-term storage. All storage freezers are located in a fire-proof environment and are connected to a liquid nitrogen pipe-in system to ensure a consistent supply of liquid nitrogen, which maintains the temperature in the freezers low enough for long-term storage of cord blood stem cells. The facility is equipped with a power back-up generator and is monitored 24 hours.

 |
Superior processing techniques
We use a unique enhanced processing procedure developed by Dr. H. Yang to maximize the extraction of cord blood stem cells from each sample. Saving more cells increases the chance of a sample being selected for transplant and increases the success of a transplant.
|
Quality guaranteed with a quality certificate
You have over a 96% chance of obtaining a yield of total nucleated cells (TNC) from processing that is ≥ 95%. If the yield is lower than 95% you will receive a discount on your annual storage fee for 18 years. If the yield is lower than 80% you will be entitled to free cord blood banking including registration, processing, testing and storage of your child's cord blood for 18 years.
